Autorenporträt
Horst Gunkel, Jahrgang 1951, arbeitete 40 Jahre als Lehrer an einem beruflichen Schulzentrum. Er engagierte sich in vielen Vereinen und Bürgerinitiativen zum Schutz des Lebens in all seinen Formen. Von 1981 bis 1995 war er in zahlreichen Gremien und zwei Regionalparlamenten aktiv. Von 1987 bis 2000 leitete er außerdem das ÖkoBüro Hanau. Anfang der 90er Jahre begegnete er dem Buddhismus und erkannte schnell, dass ein Engagement hierin (noch) wichtiger als sein bisheriges Wirken war. Er legte alle politischen Ämter nieder und setzte sich im Netzwerk Engagierter Buddhisten für ökologische, pazifistische und soziale Projekte ein. 1996 kam er zur Buddhistischen Gemeinschaft Triratna (damals: Freunde des Westlichen Buddhistischen Ordens), für die er zunächst in Frankfurt/M. eine Meditationsgruppe aufbaute, dann die Buddhistische Gemeinschaft Gelnhausen, die er bis heute leitet.
