"A good read for tweens, teens, and the entire family."
-Judi Lifton, author
In this collection of fables and short stories, we are transported to different times and different places. Though the main characters are younger, and it is written in snippets easily accessible to young adult readers, there are lessons here for those of us far removed from that stage, as well.

I was especially drawn to the family dynamics and memories of time spent with my grandmother, learning and living as a kid when the world outside that bubble pushed me to grow up way too fast. Enjoy the nostalgia, and remember what it's like to be a kid again before life taught us that fairies don't exist and fairytales can turn into nightmares.

- Bobbie Isabel, poet and author of The Maenad: Age of the Forgotten Ones, Book 1

As a teacher for four decades immersed in the tween world, I believe author Judi Lifton knows how to write stories for preadolescents. This anthology of original fables and enchanting short stories will captivate them. The fables bring a knowledge of the natural world with a highly imaginative flair. The humorous, whimsical shorts have a "Mary Poppins" feel to them as they present relatable characters with the promise of hope. Both her fables and short stories have valuable messages, central to the pre-adolescent psyche. My favorite was "Summer's Day" in which personal engagement becomes the key to overcoming bias and stereotyping. I enjoyed the read, and I believe young folks will as well.

- Max Willi Fischer, Y/A author of historical fiction

Autorenporträt
Award-winning Judi Lifton's first memoir "Letters to the Chief: A Minnesota Childhood" won three awards. Two years later, "A Glimpse of the Other Americas: A Backpacker's Memoir" was published. She has been a successful writer in both scientific and creative arenas. Born a Franklin, Judi has a legacy of three generations of writers with published literary works and memoirs (some in Swedish). In 2024, veering from the family tradition, her first work of fiction, Volume I of "Judi's Folktales: Magical Stories and Fables", was published. The stories have a taste of the Midwest and yet, some a flavor of her travels. In 2025 "Judi's Folktales: Volume II" was released. These folktales are more detailed and one is written in honor of a Native American, another about a Swedish immigrant and others magical or poignant. Judi lives in a small house on Lake Erie in a community called North Kingsville On-the -Lake, works with children, plays pickle ball, takes her dog Houdini for long walks, visits with friends, and continues to write.
