Mild-mannered Bernard Mitchel fits the part of the typical grieving widower. When he tries to convince the detectives that he has been going back in time to save his wife from the killer they keep failing to catch, they think he's crazy.
As Detective Murphey "plays along" with Mitchel's delusions, he seems to be buying into this unbelievable story. At each facet of the interrogation, thoughts of Murph's estranged wife surface, leading him to a conclusion he can't be sure he reached for himself.
