D.M. McGowan, also known as David Milton McGowan, is a Canadian novelist born in 1949 in Collingwood, Ontario. With a rich and diverse background, McGowan's life experiences have significantly influenced his writing.

Before becoming a full-time author, McGowan worked as a cowboy, forest firefighter, heavy equipment operator, farmhand, gardener, road musician, businessman, and commercial driver. He retired in 2022 and now resides in Northern British Columbia.

McGowan's writing often explores Canadian themes, reflecting his passion for his birth country. His stories frequently incorporate historical elements, drawing from his fascination with family, local, national, and international history.
