Lui Che-woo was born in 1929 in Jiangmen, Guangdong Province and moved to Hong Kong with his family at the age of 4. During the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong he was expected to support the family. Beginning, aged 13, with a food manufacturing and distribution business, he went on to start businesses in car parts, heavy machinery, quarrying, construction materials, construction and property developments, hotels and hospitality and gaming. Bi Yajun is a freelance financial writer, biographer, and publisher and editor-in-chief of Hua Shang Ming Ren Tang.
