Autorenporträt
George Moir (1800 1870) was a Scottish advocate, author, amateur artist, and early photographer. Born in Aberdeen, Moir was educated at the University of Edinburgh, where he later became a Professor of Rhetoric and Belles-Lettres. In addition to his academic career, he made significant contributions to the study of history and folklore. Moir s writings include works on magic and witchcraft, as well as various educational texts for young pupils. His notable works include "Magic and Witchcraft," which provides a detailed historical account of the evolution of these belief systems and their societal impact. Moir s expertise extended beyond literature to include photography, where he was considered one of the early adopters of the medium in Scotland. He was a member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (FRSE), and his legacy as an intellectual figure remains influential in both the arts and academia. His works, particularly in history and superstition, offer valuable insight into the cultural and intellectual trends of the 19th century.
