Ion Creanga (18371889) was a Romanian writer, educator, and storyteller whose vivid depictions of rural life and use of folkloric language made him a cornerstone of Romanian literature. Born in the village of Humulești in Moldavia, Creanga began his career as a teacher and deacon before joining the literary circle Junimea in Iași, where his distinctive voice flourished.
