Detroit native and self-taught artist, Habiba, resides in Alabama with her husband, emory. Her passion for art ignited during her formative school years, inspired by the late great romare bearden, her mentor. renowned nationally for her ability to sensitively depict significant moments in the black experience, Habiba employs the medium of collage to elegantly convey those unique moments in time. Habiba's artistic creations have graced exhibitions across local and national venues, including the Archibald Motley Gallery, Front room Gallery, Auto Club of Michigan Gallery, the Museum of African American History, Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village-Dearborn, the institute of Arts, the 1986 Michigan Fine Arts Competition, north American black Historical Museum of Ontario, Canada, and the Gadsden Museum of Art. Proficient, gifted, and pioneering on the realm of collage, Habiba's artistic prowess is showcased in public and institutional collections. notable locations include the Michigan Design Center in troy, the Michigan Girl scout Council, nataki talibah school, Henry Ford Hospital, First independence bank, Comerica bank of Detroit, Hartford Memorial baptist Church, Ford Auditorium, Hart Plaza, Palmer Park, the university of Pennsylvania, Chicago's Army and Lou's Award winning soul Food 43 Restaurant, the Kellogg Foundation, Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, Adkins Medical Clinic, and Quality of Life Health Centers in Alabama. Habiba has received commissions and sponsorship from numerous companies and organizations, including the United Negro College Fund/Detroit Chapter, the Cancer Foundation, the Birmingham/ Bloomfield Art Association, Broom Design of Detroit, and Sparrow Recording Company. Notably, she produced the cover art for the Winans' 1992 Christmas Album and crafter the cover for the late Detroit's gospel artist Orthea Barnes. Habiba's exquisite fine art prints, including "The Story Teller", "Masai Mother, Child, and Evening Stroll, have gained widespread circulation and garnered overwhelming acclaim. Her artwork has been prominently featured on television shows like "The Bill Cosby Show", Oprah Winfrey's "Brewster Place", "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air", and "Sparks". Notably, her pieces have found a place in private collections owned by individuals such as Oprah Winfrey, United States Congressman John Conyers, the late Ms. Rosa Parks, Dr D Duane Mohon O. D., Danny Glover, and the late great Alex Haley, among others. Habiba's art has been exhibited in various cities across the United States, including Los Angeles, Atlanta, New Orleans, Dallas, Boston, New York, Washington D. C., and Alabama. Her reach extends globally, with showcases in Mexico, Jamaica, Africa, Canada, and Europe. Recognized for her contributions, Habiba holds honorary memberships in organizations such as The African American Development Association of Liberia, the National Conference of Artist, the NAACP, Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Gadsden Art Association, and Big Brothers Big Sisters Organization of Northeast Alabama. Furthermore, she has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to educating children about African American Culture through regular presentations in primary and secondary schools as well as colleges nationwide.
