Abel Lanoza leaves a psychiatric center after thirty months of institutionalization and tries to resume his life with his wife, Merci, and their son, Jorge, but everything is going against him. His only chance for recovery is the inheritance of his uncle, who recently committed suicide in the village of Muirdelmas, in the remote Tenenca de Benivasa region. There, he is welcomed into a hostile and wild environment dominated by the Osset brothers (Ibon, Bentesca, and Ferran), whose criminal activities maintain their way of life. The Osset family is in crisis, and its leader is being questioned while tensions with their historical enemies, the Piedilopó family, mount. Bentesca Osset will try to prevent this conflict from escalating, even though she herself carries the burden of a heavy secret. Abel and his family seem to be adjusting to life in Muirdelmas, but it is only a mirage. Memories of Osset and Abel's past will soon surface, blurring into his memory. Determined to discover his uncle's fate, Abel will embark on an obsessive investigation, while the Osset family maneuvers to avert disaster. A chain of events will unleash unprecedented forces in these mountains, while Abel and Pentisca see their attempts to stop the conflict fail. A novel of madness and survival, as its two opposing sides march relentlessly toward a final reckoning. The outcome will be clarified in a village isolated from the world, with its own rules: Muirdelmas.
