Produktbeschreibung
Internationally acclaimed as a natural successor to that great historical maritime novelist Patrick O'Brian, Julian Stockwin returns with a magnificent new Thomas Payne Kydd adventure. It's now 1797. Kydd has been at sea four long, hard years and his adventures have taken him around the world, from the Caribbean to the Far East. Having now risen to the rank of Master's Mate, a warrant officer, Kydd volunteers for a dangerous mission on the frigate Bacchante. The ship will sail from Gibraltar to Venice to rescue a British diplomat who has become trapped in hostile territory. Venice is surrounded and will soon fall to Napoleon Bonaparte. In a spirited narrative that will take Kydd and his seafaring friend Nicholas Renzi through the Mediterranean and eventually home to England, Mutiny leads, as its title suggests, to the ultimate shipboard confrontation: mutiny! As a loyal servant of the King, Kydd must decide whether to join his shipmates in their uprising. The cause is just-the sailors have had no raise in pay in 150 years! But to mutiny is to commit treason against King and country. How can Kydd do his duty and yet not betray his friends? Kydd faces the most difficult decision of his life in this richly nuanced novel from a master storyteller whose love for the sea shines through on every page.
