During his first trip to Greece, from June 13 to August 5, 1901, the then thirty-eight-year-old C.P. Cavafy starts writing a "diary of events" in English. Despite his original intentions, in this interesting and little-known text he ends up chronicling his impressions of Belle Époque Athens, in addition to the details of his daily life, which even concern changes in temperature. Through the poet's walks in the urban center and the then suburbs such as Faliro, Piraeus and Kifissia, an image of Athens at the dawn of the twentieth century is revealed, with a rich social, part of which are prominent figures such as Polemis, Iakovides and especially Xenopoulos, who will meet the Alexandrian poet and play a pivotal role in establishing him in the scene of the modern Greek literature. This edition includes two texts written in 1891 by C.P. Cavafy about the Parthenon marbles, which are still relevant today.
