The Strategists' Compass is a practical guide for leaders who want to navigate complexity without relying on expensive consultants, rigid frameworks, or static strategy documents.

Produktbeschreibung
The Strategists' Compass is a practical guide for leaders who want to navigate complexity without relying on expensive consultants, rigid frameworks, or static strategy documents.

Strategy is often treated as a product: a report, a plan, or a deck. In reality, strategy is navigation. It is the ongoing discipline of knowing where you are, where you need to go, and how to adjust as conditions change. This book reframes strategy as a living practice rather than an annual exercise.

Built around eight essential bearings Vision, Knowledge, Timing, Innovation, Execution, Morale, Adaptability, and Alignment The Strategists' Compass provides a simple but robust framework for decision-making at the individual, team, and organisational level. At its centre sit Integrity and Trust, the constants that give direction meaning and sustain leadership under pressure.

Drawing on lessons from science, military history, business innovation, and philosophy, the book blends clear explanation with real-world application. It includes practical diagnostics, reflection tools, workshop guides, and case studies that help leaders surface blind spots, align teams, and turn strategy into action.

The Strategists' Compass is written for those who must live with the consequences of their decisions. It assumes strategy cannot be outsourced and that clarity, not perfection, is what enables movement. Rather than offering prescriptions, it provides orientation a way to think clearly, choose deliberately, and adapt without losing direction.

This book is the foundation of the Strategist Compass series, with companion volumes exploring execution, judgement, and leadership in greater depth.

Autorenporträt
Dr Dennis Franklin is a strategist, technologist, and author whose career bridges the worlds of science, leadership, and innovation. He is the creator of the Old Wisdom, Future Leaders series, which distils timeless insights from history's greatest thinkers and commanders for today's leaders.

Dennis served in the Royal Australian Navy, where he developed first-hand experience of leadership under pressure and the discipline required in complex environments. His family's military heritage stretches back to both World Wars, and this sense of continuity informs his deep respect for lessons forged in adversity.

Beyond the military, Dennis has built a career as a technologist, consultant, and solutions executive. His work spans technology strategy, corporate governance, and product development, always with a focus on how people and systems interact under real-world constraints.

As an author, Dennis brings together narrative, imagination, and analysis to make history come alive. He believes that while tools and technologies change, the human challenges of leadership preparation, morale, persistence, vision remain constant.

When not writing, Dennis is active in advisory roles, innovation projects, and curating his passion for history and the arts.
