Produktbeschreibung
Gliomas are an incurable disease of the central nervous system. In recent years, important milestones have been achieved in understanding the pathogenetic and molecular mechanisms of gliomas, with numerous oncological, molecular and neuroradiological studies. The first important therapeutic step, however, remains surgery. The neurosurgeon is almost always the first specialist who poses the diagnostic suspicion and takes charge of the patient, and a radical and safe surgical intervention greatly influences the patient's prognosis. The different surgical approach strategies, new technologies and trends are summarised in this volume.

Edited by a leading expert in the field and authored by a team of recognised specialists, this book addresses all the most important updates on the understanding of gliomas, analyses them from all perspectives and studies their neurosurgical aspect. It will be a valuable resource for neurosurgeons, medical oncologists, neuro-oncologists and neurologists.

He completed his Ph.D. in Neuroscience at La Sapienza University with a dissertation titled "DTI fiber-tracking parameters adjacent to gliomas: the role of tract irregularity value in operative planning, resection and outcome," which won the 2023 prize of the Italian Association of Neurosurgical Oncology. With more than 1,000 surgical procedures and a fellowship at Cornell University in New York, despite his young age, he has strong expertise in Neuro-oncology with more than 50 publications in international journals dealing with gliomas and brain tumors. He collaborates as a reviewer for several international journals and collaborates with national and international centers on neuro-oncology research. Prof. Maurizio Salvati is Director of the Chair and Post-graduate Neurosurgery course at the University of Rome 'Tor Vergata', and Director of the Complex Operative Unit of Neurosurgery . After specialising at 'La Sapienza' University of Rome in 1988 in Neurosurgery and in 2006 in Oncology at the same institution, he dedicated his career to Neuro-Oncology, focusing in particular on the diagnosis and treatment of brain tumours, vascular pathologies and degenerative spinal pathologies with the aid of the most modern methods. He also deals with cranio-spinal traumatology and functional neurosurgery. He is the author of over 297 scientific papers and abstracts published in national and international scientific journals. Prof. Garbossa has held the position of Director of Complex Structure Neurosurgery Unit of the AOU Città della Salute e della Scienza of Turin since 2018. He is also Director of the post-graduate School in Neurosurgery, Department of Neuroscienc. e University of Turin since 2017. Prof. Garbossa is specialised in neuro-traumatology, vascular neurosurgery, spinal pathology, peripheral nervous system surgery, neuro-oncology, treatment of hydrocephalus and atlo-occipital hinge malformations (S.Chiari).
