Del Turner lives a quiet life with his father in a small college town, but he has a mysterious mother he sees only once a year in the early morning hours of his birthday, and every year she has brought him a magical gift. Once he arrives in Night, Del meets three half-brothers he didn't know he had, and learns that he is a half-human Child of Night with the power to use his mind to manipulate matter and create anything he wishes. His brothers agree to help Del find his father, but then Del inadvertently reignites an old conflict between two factions among the Children of Night, and makes a dangerous enemy of one of his half brothers. Caught up in the conflict, Del must decide how he wants to use his powers in a very personal battle between good and evil.
