Olivia shares stories of disturbing behaviour during five months at Police Training School, the incidents and investigations she dealt with during her six months as a frontline police constable. As well as cases she managed during her six months as a trainee detective constable.

In this professional confessional memoir, covering Olivia's 18 months as a trainee police officer, she reflects on what she learnt, from what turned out to be an incredibly isolating job, while recollecting her own adverse childhood experiences - experiences that she believes helped her to be an empathetic police officer.

You will meet some of the challenging characters Olivia endured, both police and the public, and gain an insight into the 'let them sink or swim' approach to new recruits.

An approach that created a dysfunctional working environment, chaos, inconsistency, a lack of support, bitching, isolation for new officers, as well as chronic stress, and illness for many.

Despite her determination to stay in a new career that had held so much promise, the dysfunction begins to take its toll. And Olivia has a difficult decision to make: stay in a job she loves, but is damaging her health, or walk away.

The fact that many of the issues revealed in this book have been going on for decades should concern the public. Or at least help them to respect, and better understand, the pressures on frontline policing in the UK.

Olivia Gray lives with her husband and two cats in an undisclosed county in the UK.

She grew up in another county in the UK with her parents and younger brother.

Streetwise, adventurous and brave, Olivia didn't enjoy or thrive in school, but once out of the confines of the British secondary school education system, she found her love of language; and her natural drive for hard work.

Always seizing opportunities to learn and grow she changed jobs every few years, in search of new challenges, and experiences.

As she headed for 50, having become an expert in her field in the private sector, she knew she needed more to fulfil her thirst for knowledge and growth. It was time for a total change, and being a detective became her new goal. A way to serve her community and support others to be the best they can be.

Olivia believes that life is too short, and we must take every positive opportunity we have the strength for, to truly live.

In this distraction driven world, we must find time for solitude, to feel our feelings, to listen to our guts, and to make positive changes. Be brave. Mistakes are what make us human. And how we learn.

After a lifetime of learning and curiosity, healing and growing, Olivia has finally found the elusive balance; and has never been stronger or healthier.
