Matthew was born and raised in and around Effingham, Illinois. He earned an associate degree in computer programming from Lake Land College in Mattoon, Illinois. He has a love of animals (especially dogs) and all things science fiction. His favorite superheroes are Superman, Martian Manhunter, and Spiderman.

In addition to being an author, he also runs a small video and tabletop game convention in his hometown.
