In June 1944, the Normandy Landings, or D-Day, took place. A historic day that laid the foundations of the Allied victory in World War Two, but which was a truly horrific and harrowing experience for those men who lived through it, and the many men whose lives were lost on the beaches of and the seas around Northern France. Emotional and thought-provoking, but with some witty interludes, Our Trip To The Battlefields provides us with the author's own personal experiences and thoughts as he visits many of the renowned sites that were made famous by the landings. His trip retraces the footsteps of his beloved Uncle Arthur, a heroic survivor of that momentous, fateful, and traumatic day, who is at the core of this account and who, in his own words, was '... just doing my duty ...'.

Autorenporträt
The author was born in Bristol in November 1938. In his school days, he attended Cotham Grammar School. He has been married for 63 years and has two children, one boy and one girl. His favourite things to do are gardening, reading, writing, and acting, and his special skills are writing and poetry. He has been writing reports, specifications, training programmes, plays, and many other documents at a senior level for a long time. He has previously published one work: The reasons my mum suffered PTSD. In Ronald's own words: I shall never retire! To sit down and do nothing would drive me insane. I am an active member of Meadows to Meaders where we write and perform stories about the deprived council estate of Southmead, Bristol, where I was born and brought up. Alongside other performances, we performed Orpheus and Eurydice at the Bristol Old Vic last September alongside professional actors, the culmination of our acting careers!
