PAIDOMAZOMA
The 28,000 Abducted Greek Childrenby Dr. Niki Karavasilis
Paidomazoma is a haunting and powerful true story about the 28,000 Greek children abducted by Communist rebels during the Greek Civil War (1946-1949) and scattered across Eastern Europe behind the Iron Curtain.
At the heart of this tragedy is Dora, a twelve-year-old girl torn from her widowed mother's arms and thrust into a world of fear, starvation, and ideological indoctrination. Sent to Yugoslavia, Dora's life becomes a testament to the endurance of the human spirit-a story of loss, resilience, and hope that spans thirty-three years of exile before her return to Greece.
Through Dora's journey, Dr. Niki Karavasilis unveils one of the darkest chapters in modern Greek history-the systematic abduction of innocent children, their forced separation from family and homeland, and their struggle to retain identity amid political manipulation. Painful yet uplifting, this story bears witness to a generation lost to war and ideology but never to the love of country or the bond between mother and child.
Rich in historical context and emotional truth, Paidomazoma combines meticulous research with vivid storytelling. It is a timeless chronicle of survival, courage, and the will to reclaim one's roots against impossible odds.
