Heinrich Böll's "stories" and "social narratives" not only reflect settings of past interactions and communications but are also regarded as textual figures of remembrance, as symbols and evidence of an individual and collective identity. The fascinating power of his words manifests culture and society as an ensemble of discursive events. Even the subjective patterns of perception, thought and behaviour of his characters are a figural function of connectedness in special social situations to which certain roll identities and sensibilities belong. To commemorate Heinrich Böll's 100th anniversary researchers reanalyse his writings under biographical, contemporary and international points of view.
