James Corbett was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, in 1979, the youngest of three sons. His father was an architectural draughtsman, his mother a housewife, the young married couple having moved from Gateshead, in the north of England, to Canada in 1972.James attended the University of Calgary, where in 2001 he was awarded a Bachelors degree with First Class Honors in English Literature, and Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, where he received a Masters degree (M. Phil.) in Anglo-Irish Literature in 2003.He moved to Japan in 2004, where he is now married and the father of two young children.
