Garrison Callaway was a simple man with simple dreams. All he wanted to do was run his custom furniture business and keep his three younger brothers in line, which was a full-time job in itself. He had become their primary caretaker at the age of ten when their mom died and left them with an abusive, alcoholic father. First, there was Alexander, who had recently lost his wife to cancer and struggled with his grief in the face of raising his two boys, ages four and two, on his own. Next, there was Raymond, who dreamed of opening his own restaurant one day. He got in trouble with the youngest Callaway brother sometimes, but overall, he had a good head on his shoulders. Last, there was Sloan, the baby of the family, who had fallen deep into alcohol use and was quickly on his way to living up to the "no-good Callaway boy" reputation they had earned from their father. Garrison had given up on ever have a family of his own besides the ready-made one he had taken on when he was still just a boy, but a chance encounter with his pretty new neighbor, Leah Atwater and her daughter, Isadora, changed all of that for him. Leah Atwater, on the run from her own haunted past, was sure that she would never risk her heart to another man again, at least until their chance meeting throws them together in a way that she couldn't have anticipated. She soon finds that Garrison Callaway and his band of Callaway men and boys have become very important in the lives of her and her daughter. But the past that Leah is on the run from isn't ready to let her and Isadora go, and it threatens to keep Leah and Garrison from the second chances at life that they both so deserve.
