Edward Verrall Lucas, often known simply as E. V. Lucas, was a prominent English writer, essayist, playwright, biographer, publisher, and journalist. Born on June 11, 1868, in Eltham, Kent, Lucas nurtured a diverse literary career that spanned several decades leading up to the mid-20th century. A versatile author, Lucas wrote over 100 books, including children's literature, essays, and books on travel, such as 'Roving East and Roving West' in which he chronicled his impressions of travels to places like India, Japan, and the United States with an engaging wit and insightful commentary.
