The eldest daughter of author Thomas Mann, German actress and writer Erika Mann (190569) ran a Munich cabaret where she wrote and performed anti-Fascist material. Forced to flee her native country with the rise in Nazism during the 1930s, she turned to journalism and reported on the Spanish Civil War as well as World War II and the Nuremberg Trials.
