Brenda A. Parker Brenda, better known as Gigie (pronounced G G), received her BA in Education with distinction from the University of Michigan and a MFA from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. in fibers After graduating with her BA in Education, she taught in public, and rural schools in Michigan, and a private Independent Schools in Pittsburgh, PA. and one in Palos Verdes Peninsula, CA. Brenda loved teaching and always referred to herself as a child advocate. After moving to California, where her husband was transferred to work for the Rockwell Corporation, she was hired to teach at Chadwick, a private, independent school, where after five years of teaching in the Village School (K-6), she was promoted to be the Curriculum Director and later Head of the Village School (the grade school). She remained as the head of the Village for three years. When Brenda resigned from Chadwick, she accepted a job to be head of Westchester Neighborhood School (WNS), (later renamed Westside Neighborhood School (WNS), a private K-8 independent school in California. While at WNS, Brenda, built a highly effective and powerful child-centered diverse student body and supportive school culture. She counseled with the parents about their children's academic success and how to best parent. Based on her effectiveness in developing a diverse student body and supportive culture, she was given a one-million-dollar grant to the school in her name to support student diversity. Brenda served as Head of WNS for thirteen years. She resigned in 2007 to work with her husband in reaching out to more parents and students by offering effective parenting and student learning programs. In 2009, Brenda and her husband were invited to help turn around a struggling African-centered K-8 Detroit Public Charter School, Timbuktu Academy of Science and Technology, later renamed Obama Leadership Academy. After four years of their leadership in the school, the school received a five-year extension of its Charter. The success of the extended charter was assisted by a highly motivated and dedicated staff and teachers. Brenda has co-authored several articles with her husband and was active in his work at the United Nations, New York and traveled to South Korea with him to participate in Brain Education events. She was an effective teacher in training teachers and students on the benefits of brain education for the Body and Brain. Brenda now enjoys being at her home, living on a golf course with her husband in Sedona, AZ. She enjoys reading, writing her memoirs, watching documentaries and beading.
