Produktbeschreibung
In "Sketches," Benjamin Disraeli, the Earl of Beaconsfield, presents a rich tapestry of essays that explore the complexities of British society during the mid-19th century. Employing a vivid literary style that blends social commentary with personal reflection, Disraeli captures the nuances of political life, the tension between aristocracy and emerging industrialism, and the evolving character of the British populace. The work stands out for its sharp wit and distinctive voice, showcasing Disraeli'Äôs keen observations and his ability to weave intricate narratives that both engage and provoke thought in the reader. Disraeli, a prominent politician and novelist, was deeply immersed in the socio-political landscape of his time, serving as Prime Minister twice and engaging with issues like class disparity and national identity. His personal experiences as a Jewish man within the predominantly Christian British society uniquely shaped his perspectives, which are palpable in "Sketches." His literary background, coupled with his political career, informed the targeted scrutiny of societal structures and cultural dynamics prevalent in this collection. "Sketches" is a compelling read for those interested in Victorian literature, political history, and social critique. Disraeli's eloquent language and incisive analysis make this collection not only an essential addition to the canon of 19th-century literature but also a thought-provoking examination of the undercurrents that shaped modern Britain.

Autorenporträt
Benjamin Disraeli was a British statesman and Conservative politician who was born on December 21, 1804, and died on April 19, 1881. He was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom twice. He was one of the most important people in making the modern Conservative Party, helping to set its policies and define its wide reach. People remember Disraeli for his strong voice in world affairs, his political fights with William Ewart Gladstone, the leader of the Liberal Party, and his one-nation conservatism, also called "Tory democracy." He made the Conservatives the party that most people thought of when they heard the words "British Empire" and "military action to grow it," which were both things that British voters liked. Disraeli began writing novels in 1826, and his last one, Endymion, came out just before he died at the age of 76. Over the course of his life, Disraeli's writing and politics influenced each other. This made him "one of the most prominent figures in Victorian public life" and led to a lot of commentaries. Disraeli thought about running for office after he became a Christian. Since Sampson Gideon in 1770, when he was elected as an MP, there have been Jewish MPs.
