Description

Stacked Decks is not just a memoir - it's a testimony from the edge of the system.

Told through the eyes of a live-in caregiver in the UK, this powerful narrative exposes the hidden realities behind Direct Payment schemes, elderly care, and the emotional toll of being both irreplaceable and invisible. It captures the quiet suffering, moral compromise, and systemic failures that caregivers endure behind closed doors - unacknowledged, overburdened, and often blamed for what others ignore.

With piercing honesty and restrained rage, Peter Wilk documents his descent into burnout while trying to uphold the dignity of another. What begins as compassion becomes entrapment. What should be teamwork becomes isolation.

This is the story of those who are never asked how they are - only whether the bins were taken out, the pills given, and the complaints silenced.

For every unseen worker who stayed too long, and for every truth buried under bureaucracy - Stacked Decks gives you your voice back.

About the Author

Peter Wilk never planned to write a book. He only wanted to help the ones who suffer those whose pain doesn't make headlines, who don't shout, but simply vanish behind care plans and forgotten files.

His path began in a military hospital, where suffering wasn't theory it was screaming, bleeding, shaking. That experience never left him. It changed how he listened, how he walked into a room, how he held space for another person's fear.

Peter has worked for years as a live-in caregiver in the UK. He has seen what the paperwork misses, what the policies don't fix, and what only those who've stood in the fire can ever truly understand.

He studies psychology not to collect credentials, but to decode the wounds behind words. His writing is not polished it's raw, like the truth it carries.

This book is not a product. It's a witness.
