Produktbeschreibung
This book tells the challenging and intimate story of a young person in 1983 on a journey outside of familiar academic studies and choosing instead a new world facing daily contact with the people of the world. It was an adventure that required learning to understand, when language was often not possible. Here are the personal adventures of hitch hiking through Central Europe and the Middle East, then home through Southern Europe and North Africa.

Read stories of encountering new complexities for which the person was not prepared, and it was necessary to adjust out of necessity. This occurred, twenty years after the Second World War, when the wounds of war were still visible, both physically and psychologically, in the European and Middle Eastern psyches. It was an era of personal and social upheaval, as many sought to make sense of their changing world.

It is the story of growing in self-reliance and learning to live simple with the international subculture of other young adults seeking together. Most were traveled with little money and still seeking to live vividly. Many travelled alone, but met nightly in youth hostels where instant friendship, advice, comfort, and support awaited. This is an inspiring story about leaving the safe and comfortable way of life that we know, and daily going forth into the unknown.
