Gwennie is a widow. Short, plump, grey-haired and a pensioner, she's about to embark on her first visit to the indoor swimming pool for exercise and therapy. Nervous and self-conscious, Gwennie procrastinates, making observations about other people at the pool and fidgeting with her belongings before finally getting in the water. The water is blissfully welcoming and while she walks up and down the length of the pool she reminisces about her dearly departed husband called Max, his penny-pinching ways and how shocked he would be at all the money she's spent since he died.

I am an Australian fiction writer and artist.
Originally from Maitland, near Newcastle, I have lived in Central West NSW for more than forty years. Many things inspire my creative pursuits - my life experiences, country and coastal locations and travel. One of the hardest things when writing is choosing the right name for characters.
