"The Abyss" is a work by the representative of the Silver Age of Russian literature, the founder of Russian expressionism L. N. Andreev (1871-1919). This story caused a scandal in society. The author was accused of immorality and slander of a person. Like, a high school student who grew up in a respectable family could not abuse his beloved... Gorky, in connection with the noise around the story, said: "They punched the tradesman in the face, that's why he swears." Many writers have spoken enthusiastically about The Abyss. The theme of "darkness" that covers a person is often found in Andreev's works.
