How do we recognize a reader when we spot one? They will tell me: Books are not created by readers. This is true, the credit does not go to us, and it does not go to the library either. There were readers before the library opened, and they will certainly remain after its disappearance. People were reading before the books started coming out, and they will continue reading even after the last book comes out. The question is not whether they will continue reading, but what they will read, and how. Will they read books? How many of us will survive? What is the fate of those who are rejected by readers?
