Produktbeschreibung
M. A. Khovansky is an enigmatic figure in Russian literature of the second half of the 19th century. His name and details of his life remain unknown to this day. He presumably lived in St. Petersburg, where in the 1880s he published several books: "The Kingdom of Women" (1887), "To Marry and Be Happy: The Science of Marriage" (1888), the novel "The Daughter-in-Law of Peter the Great" (1889), and a translation of August Kühner's medical work "Sleep, Insomnia, and the Means of Preventing It" (1887). Such authors, although not among the foremost in Russian literature, constituted an important part of the literary scene, from which renowned masters arose. This edition presents the novel "The Daughter-in-Law of Peter the Great." It reveals a little-known side of life at the royal court of the early 18th century. The central figure of the work is the German princess Charlotte, wife of Tsarevich Alexei, who is doomed from the very beginning to be coldly and hostilely treated by her husband. Through her fate, the novel reveals hidden conflicts, family tragedies, and the atmosphere of palace intrigue during the reign of Peter the Great. The volume also includes stories united by the common theme of love-a force that accompanies women throughout time. These texts, simple in style and sincere in tone, reflect everyday feelings and experiences that, though written in the 19th century, remain relatable to modern readers.
