The Eleven: In his latest work of fiction, "The Eleven," Ahmed Al Karmalawi builds an amazing world that begins from reality but soon takes us into the era of myths. Its hero is a writer who begins writing a play inspired by the story of Dayna, Jacob's daughter, who leaves the desert and travels to the city of Shechem, but is kidnapped and imprisoned in the royal palace. Then we are surprised that someone is writing the same story in novel form, and is creative in describing Dayna's eleven brothers, as they go out in search of her and seek revenge for their stolen honor. Through this elusive template, and the story that derives its roots from the seventeenth century BC, Al-Qarmlawi presents to us a text in which myth is mixed with reality, and the novel with the play. A text that does not give itself away easily, but guarantees the pleasure of reading epic texts.
