Meet Lowan, a telepathic alien working as a private detective in the 1930s!

Lowan and Marx begin their hunt for the insurance fraud syndicate members. Their chase for answers entangles them in a brutal underworld beyond the city limits, where greyhound racing is the façade for a far more sinister crime. Shattered lives, fractured loyalties, and a trail of blood lead them to a man who faked his own death, but couldn't change his old habits. A race-fixing scheme soon becomes the least of their worries, and more old enemies lurk in the darkness. Every clue plunges them deeper into an abyss of murder and desperate betrayals. The stakes are higher than ever, and one misstep could bury them.

S. E. Grosskopf's writing is strongly influenced by the old pulp fiction magazines and Golden Age radio dramas of the 1930s-1950s. If you like fast-paced action and mystery with a dash of urban fantasy and quirkiness, then you'll love these books. This is the fifteenth book in the series. The books follow chronologically. Reading them in order is recommended.

Autorenporträt
I grew up listening to old radio programs on NPR. Mysteries were always my favorite, especially The Shadow. When I found out that there were Shadow books also, and that the books were way better than the radio program, I ended up reading over a hundred of them. Along with copious amounts of Doc Savage and just about everything by Edgar Rice Burroughs.

And that was my introduction to pulp fiction. Fast-paced action, larger-than-life heroes and dastardly villains, clever dialogue, and one plot twist after another. Never a dull moment. I couldn't get enough of it.

In college, I double majored in English and History. My history professor once said to me, "You like the 1930s? You should read The Great Gatsby. It's the most exciting book ever!"

My response? "It's just people sitting around talking to each other. It needs more car chases and gunfights!"

Ah, well . . .

Everyone always says, "You majored in English and History? So, you're going to be a teacher?"

Nope, I'd rather write crazy mystery-fantasy-historical . . . pulp fiction.

I currently live on the shoreline of Lake Michigan, in a house built by my great-grandfather in the 1930s. I also play ragtime piano and have a small calico cat.
