These are joined unexpectedly by the mysterious Captain Alden who wears a face mask to cover his disfigured continence. George Allan England was an American author and traveler who lived from February 9, 1877, to June 26, 1936. He was best known for his science fiction and fantasy writing. Afterwards, he ran unsuccessfully for Governor of Maine after going to Harvard University. England believed in socialism, and a lot of his writings are about that idea. Nebraska is where England was born. He got his Bachelor of Arts (A.B.) and Master of Arts (M.A.) degrees from Harvard University. On the ticket of the Socialist Party of America, he ran for Governor of Maine in 1912. He got 2,081 votes, or 1.47%, which put him in third place in that race. There is a story that England went missing while on a treasure hunt, but he actually died in a hospital in New Hampshire. England mostly wrote in New York and Maine during his work. A lot of his writings are about socialism. England's work has been influenced by writers like H. G. Wells, Jack London, and Algernon Blackwood. His short story "The Thing from-"Outside"" was first published in Hugo Gernsback's magazine Science and Invention. In April 1926, it was repeated in the first issue of Amazing Stories, which was the first science fiction magazine.
