Rezensionen
"Handsomely produced, and very attractive visually. Theeditors, Alan Davies and Catherine Elder, are leading experts inapplied linguistics and they have assembled a strong group ofcontributors to the enterprise... The Handbook of AppliedLinguistics should be in every academic library, and I wouldrecommend that applied linguists look at it, note specific chaptersof interest, and read over those chapters carefully... Becauseof the depth allowed for each chapter, there is muchthought-provoking material and many ideas that may challenge aswell as support established positions." LanguageTeaching Research
"In the vast quarry of theories and interdisciplinaryinvestigations of applied linguistics this rigorous and scholarlybook is an authoritative guide to the focal issues. It providesboth original and important contributions to the literature as wellas signposts to the future." John C. Maher,International Christian University, Tokyo
"In its forty years of activity, applied linguistics hasbeen concerned to define itself, its extent, and its relations withrelated fields. This handbook, edited by Davies and CatherineElder, brings the issues up-to-date, providing not just a clearaccount of current work in the branches of the field by thirty ofthe best-known practitioners, but a cogent perspective justifyingtreating applied linguistics as an independent and uniteddiscipline." Bernard Spolsky, Bar-IlanUniversity
"This is a linguistically sophisticated, pedagogicallysound, research oriented, interdisciplinary approach at definingapplied linguistics as a discipline in its own right that should bein every applied linguist's library. A vade mecum."James E. Alatis, Georgetown University
"Davies and Elder are to be congratulated for the Handbookin Applied Linguistics. The handbook reflects the historicalevolution of thinking in applied linguistics, its emergingdimensions, and successfully captures the nature of an internalcritique of applied linguistics within applied linguistics. Becauseapplied linguistics is firmly embedded within western appliedlinguistics, the handbook book forces us to reflect on the naturenon-western applied linguistics might take."
