The Indian Problem is a novel based on the horrific practices that occurred during the early 20th century in which the children of indigenous tribes in Canada were forcibly taken from their villages and interred in residential boarding schools, where they were subjected to physical, mental and sexual abuse in an effort to "kill the Indian in the Indian." It's told through the eyes of the Ojibwe whose lives are upended by this program, as well as a Jesuit priest who tries to change the abhorrent practices, and a young nun with a checkered past who helps him. The Wendigo, a powerful demon of myth, is called down by a native woman to stop the men from stealing her child, but now released, it goes on to infest those running the boarding school, adding its own insatiable appetites to those of the aberrant nuns and headmaster. Eventually it controls the entire school, wreaking horror after horror on the innocent children, and its hunger never ends.....

Autorenporträt

Mary Quijano is a veteran school teacher, with over 30 years experience teaching science, math, writing and ancient history in both California and Hawaii. She is as well as a published author of several novels and screenplays, including "Smoke, Mirrors and Deep Space," "The Secret Life of God as Man," "Bloodmaster, The Courtship of Apollyon," and "Bloodmaster II, The Tribulation." Her latest novel, "The Lampstand," follows the journey of the Apostles after the death of Christ as they work to spread the truth He brought to mankind throughout the Mediterranean area. Heavily researched from both historical and Biblical accounts, their story is told from multiple first-person viewpoints which bring the reader into the thoughts and emotions of these brave disciples. Mary is currently working on her next novel, which explores scientific anomalies as the indisputable evidence of God. She lives on the big island of Hawaii where she enjoys longboard surfing, snorkeling and hiking when she is not writing, teaching, helping out as part of her church leadership team, and acting as a member of her charter school's governing board.
