Herbert George Wells (1866-1946) Herbert George Wells was born on September 21, 1866 at Bromley, Kent in England and died on August 13, 1946, London. He was an English novelist, journalist, sociologist, and historian best known for his science fiction novels as The Time Machine and The War of the Worlds and comic novels such as The History of Mr. Polly. H.G. Wells was a pioneer of the science fiction genre and a man of unlimited imagination. He was a prolific English writer in many genres, including the novel, history, politics, social commentary, and textbooks and rules for war games. Wells is now best remembered for his science fiction novels and is called the father of science fiction. His most popular science fiction works include The Time Machine, The Island of Doctor Moreau, The Invisible Man, and The War of the Worlds.
