"Echoes Of Janie" opens with the murder of Janie Ballantine, daughter of the district attorney. Jan and her partner, Detective Seeward Sinclair, have little to help them. An interview with Janie's boyfriend convinces Seeward that he is the killer but Jan isn't convinced. Jan receives a phone call from one of Janie's neighbors who claims to have seen a stranger days before Janie's murder. Unfortunately, the stranger can't be tied to her murder. Without Jan's knowledge, Sinclair contacts a friend at the FBI as a means to solve the case.

"The Original Thirteen Murders" has Jan investigating a winter visitor found dead on the beach. No leads or witnesses doesn't help matters. The murder of a woman visiting her grandparents provides Jan with a suspectJerry Scanlon, owner of a pool cleaning business. Scanlon proves to be uncooperative. Several unsolved murders in the area brings Jan to propose an unusual scenario for a serial killer on the loose.

"Shadow Of Deceit" finds Jan looking into the murder of a retired police lieutenant from Michigan. His stellar career is tainted by an unproven association with organized crime. A second search of his lavish condominium uncovers an information disc with his name and others and their offshore bank accounts. Jan is unable to find a reason for the men being eliminated until she receives a phone call from an unlikely source.
