The present study is fully integrated into the framework of modern Greek dialectology and constitutes the only contemporary description of the idiom of the area of the city of Larissa and the villages of its immediate vicinity, an area for which there is an unprecedented lack of linguistic data. It is one of the few descriptions of a Greek idiom in which the most important phonetic, phonological, morphological and syntactic phenomena are recorded based on the principles of modern scientific description, and the only one that concerns the Thessalian idiom. This book contributes: - to the rescue of the dialect of Larissa, which is in a phase of decline, and allows the reader to study the linguistic reality of an earlier era - to the recording and identification of the special characteristics of the dialect of Larissa and brings phenomena that have not been identified or have not been described in modern linguistic terms to the surface - to the neo-hellenic dialectology, by comparing data that allow for a more complete distinction and classification of northern Greek dialects.
