Then he says:
"I died ten years ago. I thought you should know."
And he vanishes.
In the days that follow, the protagonist finds pieces of evidence confirming the impossible:
• obituary clippings that appear and disappear
• an old photo with the man circled
• a phone number saved in their contacts they don't remember adding
• people in town who react with fear when asked about him
• places that feel familiar but wrong, like memories that belonged to someone else
As more clues surface, the protagonist realizes they did once know this man-deeply, intimately-and that the truth about his death is tied to a moment the protagonist has forgotten... or buried.
And the man keeps reappearing in reflections, windows, and fleeting glimpses-never older, never changed, always watching.
He didn't return to haunt the protagonist.
He returned because something is coming next.
