Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941) was an Indian poet, philosopher, artist, and Nobel laureate whose work reshaped Bengali literature and music. He became the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913 for his poetry collection Gitanjali. A deeply spiritual and visionary thinker, Tagore's vast body of work includes poems, songs, short stories, novels, plays, and essays, blending traditional Indian themes with modern humanism. He also composed the national anthems of India and Bangladesh. A prominent voice for cultural and educational reform, Tagore founded Visva-Bharati University and remains one of the most revered literary figures in the world.
