Clifford McClellan Sablett (1887-1939) was an American writer, a descendant of French Huguenots who fled France during the reign of Louis XIV. He is the author of several historical adventure novels, including The Bright Face of Danger, The Red Cockerel, The Perilous Journey, The Golden Trumpet, The Rookie Hunt, and others. His books take readers to eras of wars, conspiracies, and great geographical discoveries, where honor and courage determine the fates of the heroes. This edition presents the novel The Red Cockerel, the events of which unfold in France in the mid-16th century, torn apart by religious wars between Catholics and Huguenots. The main character, Gascon Blaise de Brehaut, received his nickname Red Cockerel because of his hot temper and indomitable spirit. Thanks to the same character, he made many enemies, but he is not used to retreating in the face of danger. When the leader of the Huguenots, Admiral Coligny, organizes an expedition to the New World to resettle his supporters in the recently discovered America, Blaise agrees to go with him. The hero will face sea battles, betrayals, new enemies and great trials that will require all his courage and dexterity to stay alive.
