An unforgettable, heart-wrenching story tying together past and present, from the bestselling author of The Forgotten Bookshop in Paris

Avignon, France, 1940. Brave, beautiful Mathilde longs to be part of the Nazi Resistance. But she's soon arrested herself by French police, and only after months in prison, she escapes along with a charismatic Resistance leader, Yves Toussaint. The pair find refuge in nearby Château Albertine, but there is more lurking beneath the surface in the sunny French countryside. There, she becomes drawn deeper into a dangerous world of subterfuge and action against the Nazis; deeper too, into a relationship with Yves which further complicates her life.

But Mathilde's freedom may be short lived, as the château starts to attract attention from the Germans...

Paris, France, present day. Juliette's life should be perfect, running a bookshop in Paris with her partner Nico, but something just isn't clicking.

When the opportunity comes to find out more about her grandmother's time in Provence during the war, she grabs it with both hands. But in there are secrets lurking in Provence. When Juliette looks through an album of photographs in the Chateau, she'll uncover a secret that will have her wondering if she should have left the past lie...

A heart-wrenching tale of love, loss and the realities of war, perfect for fans of Kate Quinn and Evie Woods.

Autorenporträt
Daisy Wood worked in publishing for some years before leaving to concentrate on her own writing. She has had several children's books published, both historical and contemporary, and is happiest rooting about in the London Library on the pretext of research. She lives in south London and when not locked away in her study can be seen in various city parks, running after a rescue Pointer with a Basset Hound in tow.
