The Smile and the Abyss brings together four stories that shift between raw humor and disguised melancholy.
From a small village where nothing ever happens to a washed-up actress desperate for an audience; from political illusions that turned into bureaucracy to Christmases soaked in failure - each narrative exposes both the ridiculous and the tragic sides of living in a world that rarely makes sense.
Between irony and despair, what remains is laughter - the kind that clings to the abyss just to avoid falling with it.

Autorenporträt
Zarak Krumfort writes about silence the kind that hides behind closed doors, in forgotten alleys, and inside people no one listens to. Born in Salvador, Brazil, and currently living in the United Kingdom, he explores themes of invisibility, memory, and emotional survival through poetic realism and urban decay.

His published works include Mesmo Quando Ninguém Vê, a collection of poems in Portuguese, Bitter Taste, a literary exploration of trauma and loss, and Tales From Nowhere, a series of raw, intimate portraits from a city no one remembers.
