This volume based on an international and interdisciplinary conference in 2014 provides an assessment of the developments after the upheavals in the Southern Mediterranean with regard to the challenges for the European Foreign and Security Policy. Besides a review of the European Neighbourhood Policy and the experiences of the European External Action Service in the countries of the Southern periphery, the analysis considers economic and social dynamics across the Mediterranean as well as challenges from societal actors, especially Islamist groups with regard to regional developments and European politics. Furthermore, the volume incorporates the view of the eminent regional actors Turkey and Israel and explains their responses towards the regional developments.
