It's a story inspired by true events, set against the backdrop of wartime in the former Dutch East Indies, now Indonesia and Japan. A history we shouldn't forget. He also had a ton of fun, falling in love, doing awesome jobs, and going on incredible jungle expeditions in former Dutch New Guinea, now West Papua, an Indonesian province.
Claude Belloni made his own life story, with his own hands, using his diary, journals, and over a hundred photos, but piecing everything together was a monumental task.
Author: "There's already too much stress in the world. Yet, here I am, unveiling my new book. This book is dedicated to peace in the world, starting from within. The more peace we have within ourselves, the more peace there will be in our troubled world."
Renée's book was first published in Dutch. Now she has rewritten it in English, opening up the world of the Eurasians in colonial Indonesia to an International readership. One might note that she has chosen to write it in what can only be called colloquial English, a refreshing change from dour scholastic expression.
What was colonial life in the Dutch (Netherlands) East Indies for these mixed-race families caught between two worlds? Up to now, the reality is that very little has been recorded of what their lives had been like, despite the fact that Eurasian families had lived throughout the Dutch East Indies for hundreds of years. It is the mission of Belloni to encourage the descendants of families such as hers and others to chronicle these lives before they are lost. The Sun in His Eyes is the result of her creative effort to do this.
Quotes Ebook review:
"Congrats to Renée Belloni for your book. I'm up to chapter 3.2 and have to say that, despite the sadness and sheer senselessness of war, your father's optimism and compassion for humanity shines through. It's movie worthy Renée ..in my humble opinion! You have a very engaging writing style. Your love and respect for your family shines through in every word. A true work of passion. I'm looking forward to the next chapters."
"Wow, This book was so intense, it made me pause. Some words that just pop into my head: Respect, cool, admiration, historiography."
"I have no doubt that Renée's adventurous father would be immensely proud of the way in which his daughter has paid him homage and opened their family's rich history to Australian and International eyes."
His narrative will open both doors and hearts. If you enjoy reading biographies, history, adventures, or true stories of WWII, this book is a must-read.
