Autorenporträt

Born in Montgomery, Alabama, the late Garry Bowers (1946-2023) was a lifelong Alabamian. He had degrees from Troy University, Auburn University, and the University of Alabama. He worked for 20 years as a public-school teacher and administrator and later worked as a deputy sheriff. He also served in the Alabama National Guard. All the while Bowers wrote columns for newspapers about hunting and fishing and other subjects.

Previously published Bowers's books included Slavery and the Civil WarWhat Your History Teacher Didn't Tell You (2019) and Dixie Days: Reminiscences of a Southern Boyhood (2020). His most recent and final title, The Ultimate Primer for the Southern Outdoorsman was published in 2025.
