Autorenporträt
John William Polidori (1795-1821) fue un médico y escritor inglés, conocido por ser uno de los pioneros en la literatura vampírica moderna. Nacido el 7 de septiembre de 1795 en Londres, en una familia de origen italiano, mostró una gran inteligencia desde joven, ingresando a la Universidad de Edimburgo a los 15 años y graduándose como médico a los 19. En 1816, Polidori se convirtió en el médico personal de Lord Byron y lo acompañó en su viaje por Europa, durante el cual participaron en la famosa reunión en la Villa Diodati en Suiza, junto con Mary Shelley y Percy Bysshe Shelley.
