Alexander Ivanovich Krasnitsky (1866-1917), known under many pseudonyms, the most common of which was A. I. Lavintsev, is among the most prolific Russian writers of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. A journalist, playwright, poet, and novelist, he collaborated with nearly all the leading St. Petersburg publications, and was especially close with the A. A. Kaspari publishing house, whose supplements published dozens of his novels. In total, Krasnitsky left behind approximately one hundred works-primarily historical, but also biographical essays, short stories, plays, and poems. This volume presents two of his historical romantic works, "Throne and Love" and "At the Sunset of Love." In them, the writer explores the figure of Peter the Great and the circle of women who played an important role in his life. Through passions and betrayals, jealousy and devotion, not only the ruler's private fate is revealed, but also the drama of an era in which personal feelings intertwined with state power and court intrigue. These novels do not claim strict historical accuracy: the reader is presented with a fictional narrative in which history becomes the backdrop for the drama of human relationships. At the center is the image of a strong personality and her love, which reflects the greatness and contradictions of the times themselves.
