Aspiring to understand the theories concerning the necessity of Christ's death and what it accomplished is a challenging and exciting undertaking that every Christian should pursue. This book guides the way with a fair presentation of different atonement theories, an extensive analysis of relevant biblical texts, and a presentation of the author's conclusions from her personal quest for understanding. Throughout, there is a careful determination not to blur the lines between what is fact and what remains theory. Equally significant to understanding the mechanics of Christ's atoning work is contemplating the nature of the rescue and liberation that he provided through his sacrifice. May this book's readers delight in thinking through these issues and in living out the possibilities.
